How the number for Guildwars was taken is debatable, still one could only guess. Most like it based on sales, and inside information given from within a.net itself.

I never did say these were accurate, but I think your find they are close. If you want to know how they were worked out, why don't you give the author of MMOCHARTs a e-mail and ask.

Good point, Guild Wars doesn't really follow the trend of other online games of its kind.

But its stands as to be one of more popular games, then again the fact its free-to-play-monthly does help.

Guild Wars have a lifetime subscription, when you buy the game you are buying a account.

Remenber that its possible to download the client and then buy a account, Guild Wars sales numbers cannot only be games sold in retailers.

Yes, Lineage is incredible popular in far east as MMORPGs are not that popular yet in the western world, WoW success is more due to Blizzard popularity in the western world.

It can't and it isn't. Even single-player games last longer than two months. Those who say Guild Wars is dying speak for themselves and no-one else. i only know this because i used to play and still have friends that do, but runescape has over 1 million active users. maybe not daily, but definetly during the summer and on weekends seeing as how mostly 12 year olds play it. and sadly it has been ranked as one of the top mmo's a few times

I subscribe to only one magazine now.....PC GAMER.
It is funny and very informative. Sometimes too juvenile though...but that is just me.

As for numbers being posted...I take them with a grain of salt. They are usually inaccurate and/or bloated to make the companies look better on paper.

That is a No Brainer for me.....

Well, the sales numbers for GW have been very good.

My un-scientific test is the Friday night Ascalon City test. Go to your map while playing and look at how many districts are open for Ascalon City.

Now I can tell you with 3 finished char's and the other sticking to PvP that I never go to Ascalon so it's skewed a bit but the number of districts has stayed pretty steady. The first month it was hovering around 65 but since then it's been 55 or so and there hasn't been a sharp decline that I've seen.

Its more or less the Sister Magazine of PC Zone, they are basically the same, and give good reading. Some of their comments on the new WoW Battlegrounds, a.k.a LaggerGrounds are funny.

considering A-net can moniter every conversation in the game, i'm sure they can figure out how many active accounts they have, although they said previously that they would not release numbers to the public, so how mmorpgchart got numbers is beside me, but GW is certainly not having any problems with having alot of active players on at all hours so I could care less what any magazine states.

Agreed. Having the same problem. Many veteran players quit over last economy FUBAR. I've also noticed MANY guilds for sale, and segils going for as low as 23PP.Sellers GREATLY ournumber buyers in every district, and the number of districts in every town are greatly diminished no matter what time of day it is. Many of the friends I've made in the game have told me they are selling the game on Ebay and quitting.

I am very concerned for this game I love. I see NO advertisement on any media other than gamers periodicals, (The Sims sucess is greatly attributed to prime time advertising of the game) and no effort is being made with in-store advertising (end caps, passive demos, etc.). I hope that Arena Net and ncsoft realize this.

the game has been out for 3 months...definately long enough that they've experienced their initial boom, in which most video games recieve their most players. Players have either the choice to stay or leave at this point and numbers tend to climb slowly or fall very quickly. The fact that Guild Wars, a brand new game that should have sparked an incredibly large interest during its first three months, is being "spanked" by games that have been out for years is disconcerting. It speaks very highly of games like WoW Lineage and Lineage II that they've kept a fanbase for so long. To be completely honest.....if I worked at ArenaNet I'd be incredibly worried at this point.

i hope everybody will note that a person leaving the game for a while/permanently/a bit is not going to do anything except reduce operating expences for the company as they simply reduce the number of open districts.

they have their money and the leavers are not hurting them by cutting off a monthly fee.

what is important is what changes and new content are offered in the 2nd chapter which could result in a major return of people or a major influx of new people.

since this has been aimed at the more truly casual player i dont see anything that the super hard core pvp crowd will like or want so i see the most extream pvp people gone and not coming back

the fact that Anet got rid of a certain segment of the alpha testers says a lot to me as to which direction GW is heading and that it is not going to be a super hard core pvp game with PVE trimmings on the side

I've always hated people who whine on these forums and complain that GW is a dying game just because they beat the game, it's called Pvp.
